Dear Parents,
I thought this would be an appropriate time for me to thank the teachers for dedicating a complete day for conferences. We all know that as parents it is very important for you to be aware of your child’s learning experience with us and at any time you are concerned or want to discuss your child, please know that we are available to you at an appointed time. Please do not address the teacher during class time when your child is aware. We want to show respect to your child by not embarrassing him/her in front of others, hence it is very difficult for the teacher to be frank with you when the children are present. Hence the reason we ask you to make an appointment.
One of Dr. Montessori’s greatest notes on children was respect for the child. In an adult world children are often overlooked or treated as helpless dependent individuals. The truth is children are very much aware of us and their surrounding and we cannot expect them to learn respect unless we first respect them.
I also wanted to thank you for your cooperation in the recent school closings due to the weather. I understand that most of you have to find alternative child care. Please be assured that when I decided to follow Fairfax County School’s policy in this matter, I had everyone’s welfare in mind: the safety of the students as well as the staff. And, I’m happy to say that we will be opened on President’s Day to make up for some of the Snow Days.
I hope to see our fathers on February 12th for breakfast. And wish you all a happy month and valentine’s day.
~ Mrs. Amiri

Dear Toddler Parents,
We would like to thank all of you for attending Parent-Teacher's conference. Thank you very much for sharing ideas. This helped us to learn more about your children. We appreciate your support because you are the most important people in your child's life. We learned so far about birds and their seasonal migration. We also discussed some animals and their hibernation. In the upcoming month of February, we will explore the Flag and Presidents of the United States. We will also introduce the seven Continents. We are happy to welcome a new child, Ruchika, who joined our classroom this month. Father's breakfast will be on February 12th.We are expecting you to enjoy this event with us and especially with your child. Children like having you in their classroom to be involved with them. Thank you, Mrs. Nora & Mrs. Meena
Dear Parents of Class A,
Greetings!!!
We are in the swing of things in 2010. The children have learned much so far in the school year, and we are eager to challenge them even further. They are soaking new bits of information daily, and we are helping them comprehend and retain the information.
Thank you: I want to extend my thanks to all parents who attended the Parent-Teacher Conferences. It was nice to meet each of you individually and discuss your child’s progress.
Valentines’ Day: We will be celebrating Valentines’ Day on Thursday February11th with the children. We will have crafts, and then we will hand out Valentine cards. We ask that each child bring enough cards to distribute to the whole class (18). The children will be decorating their own Valentine bags to collect their Valentines cards. The children just need to sign their cards. They will place one in every Valentine bag that day.
This Month: In the month of January, we studied about the Arctic and the continent of Antarctica and we have learned about the animals that inhabit the two regions. In science, we learned about weather patterns, layers of earth, solar system and polar animals. We have also talked about Martin Luther King, Jr.
In the month of February, we will be studying the continent of Asia, and we will learn about the geography, culture, and species of animals that inhabit the region. We will also be celebrating Chinese New Year. In science, we will learn about fish and study the concepts of hot and cold. We will continue to discuss peace, and we will be talking about Black History. Also, we will continue our study of the solar system. Also, February is National Children's Dental Health Month and we will have a dentist in our school to perform a free check-up.
Dates to Remember:
February 12th - Father’s Breakfast
Thank you,
Ms. Najia and Ms. Ruby
Dear Class B Parents,
I would like to thank you all for attending the Parent–Teacher’s conference
This month we discussed Martin Luther King Jr.. We talked about the dream that Martin Luther King had for our country. I focused our discussion on respecting others and defining respect. I placed importance on the feelings, thoughts and work of others. I asked some of the older children to come up with their own dreams for our country and make a wish list with the whole class as to what are the ways we can respect each other at our school.
In order to demonstrate equality to the children, we brought eggs of two different colors. One had white color shell while the other had a brown color. However, on breaking the eggs into halves we showed the children that the contents inside are identical.
We also learned about the solar systems and name of the planets. You are may ask your children about the planets.
This month we will be learning about living things and non living things. Children are also working with vertrabrate and invertebrate.
Thank you
Ms. Sheuly & Ms. Sima
Dear Class C Parents ,
Wow, we can’t believe that it is February already and the school year is half way over! We have already learned and accomplished so many things we can’t wait to see what the last half of the year holds. We would like to thank all the parents who were able to attend the conferences and discuss their child’s progress in the year so far. If you have any other concerns or questions you are welcome to schedule a time to discuss. Last month out of many other group lessons the most important and interesting one was ‘ Solar System’.The children loved learning about the sun and the 8 planets of the solar system. We will continue the topic next month for further exploration. Some of the other topics were: three states of Matter- solid, liquid, and gas,Vertebrate and invertebrate, habitats, how Martin Luther King Jr. wanted his children to be judged by their character not by their skin color etc. Rhyming word song is very popular in our class, it is the best and most outstanding way to help children explore language and learn to read. Encourage your children to learn different words from different word families such as 'at', 'ow', 'og', 'op' etc. Children love to share their letter sound bags in the class, please remind them to put in maximum 3 objects beginning with that particular sound of the week. February is Black History Month, so we are going to spend some extra time learning about the accomplishments of African-Americans of the past or present, who have made or are making a contribution, to mankind or to our world.. Some other things we will be talking about during the month of February are Groundhog’s day, 100th day of school, Valentine’s day, President’s day, etc. We will also be studying our teeth, how to keep our teeth clean and healthy, as well as the different part of our teeth! Sometime this month people from "Dentist on the Wheels " are going to visit our school , more information will be available soon. If your child wants to bring in cards for Valentines day to share with his/her friends we will exchange valentines on February 11th during circle time. Please leave the outer envelope blank. We have 20 children in our class. You can find the list of children on our website.
Important Dates Feb 12th Father’s Breakfast
Thank You, Ms Jain Ms Zarri
Magnificent Montessori Materials:
Sandpaper Letters and Moveable Alphabets
Reading and writing go hand in hand, and the early work with the Montessori sensorial materials prepares the child for the introduction to both. Dr. Montessori observed that young children often have “an explosion into writing” and the more sensorial experience they receive during their early years, the more capable they will be in writing.
The sandpaper letters are tablets with mounted sandpaper letters. The child learns to recognize the forms and letters of the alphabet by touch, sight and sound; to get the feel of the letters as a preparation for writing. The child traces the letters in the same direction as he would normally write them while sounding out the letter (not the name of the letter).
The child learns while his hands works, and he must handle the letters and become familiar with them before either reading or writing is possible. Through repetition the child becomes very comfortable with each letter and its sound. Once the child has mastered making the sounds he will be introduced to the Moveable Alphabets where he sees how letters are put together to form words.
The Moveable Alphabet gives the child the opportunity to put together short phonetic words– slowly at first, stressing each sound. Gradually he is able to blend the individual sounds together and say the whole word. Through repetition, the child’s writing and reading skills are developed and perfected and gradually new and more advanced lessons are introduced.
